WestFest launches its full programme

Glasgow’s biggest cultural and community festival takes place across June

Free brochures are being handed out on a mini music tour of West End parks and piazzas this weekend.

The printed programmes contain details of the 120-plus events taking place at this year’s WestFest community festival.

WestFest 2024 will take place in Glasgow’s West End across the full month of June, and according to organisers this years’ programme offers a wide variety of content with “a smorgasbord of community events, concerts, theatre, comedy, exhibitions and more”.

Among the highlights are the return of the famous Kelvingrove Outdoor Ceilidh, Bard in the Botanics and a programme of illustrated talks at the Kelvin Hall.

A diverse programme of free community events includes Vinicombe Street Gala, the return of The Big Sunday @ Kelvingrove Bandstand, the Queen Margaret Drive Festival and the return of ‘Drag at The Bandstand’, this year's festival fundraiser.

The WestFest team will be launching this year's festival brochure on Saturday (April 20) with a samba band performance tour across the West End from Sambayabamba and Think Circus.

The team are inviting people from across Glasgow to come and join them to celebrate the launch of the festival.

The timings and locations are:

  • 1pm Kelvingrove Park Stewart Memorial Fountain
  • 2pm Kelvingrove Galleries Front Piazza
  • 3pm Glasgow Botanic Gardens

The WestFest team will be handing out free WestFest brochures at the launch, of which 50,000 will be distributed across the West End and central belt from this week.

WestFest’s director is Brendon McIlroy who founded the festival in 2022 in response to overwhelming demand for community and cultural events in the West End.

With WestFest we’re focusing on providing some levity and enrichment, and also opportunity for communities to come together. All of the outdoor community events WestFest produce are free and accessible to all… and always will be! - Brendon McIlroy

Brendon said: “We’re absolutely delighted to be launching WestFest’s 2024 programme this week.

“We’ve been hard at it for six months, pulling together a diverse mix of events, with our focus this year being to reach further across the West End to produce and feature events in areas we haven’t historically delivered in.

"After all, the West End is bigger than Hillhead.”

Brendon said: “Things are generally rather bleak for people just now, with the country facing a range of unprecedented challenges.

“With WestFest we’re focusing on providing some levity and enrichment, and also opportunity for communities to come together.
